About Help Calc
Help Calc is a free set of calculators for the sums that come up in hobbies and small projects: a resin pour, a fret position, a chicken run, a grain bin, a buffer on the lab bench or an Elo rating. Each calculator is chalked out like a sum on a slate: it takes the numbers you type, applies one standard formula and shows the answer together with the formula, what every variable means and a worked example you can repeat by hand.
The eight shelves
Every page sits on one of eight shelves: craft and workshop, music and audio, pets and animals, farm and grow, lab and chemistry, statistics and data, games and sports, and numbers and units. Every page is also listed in the A to Z index, and the unit converter handles ten kinds of quantity when an input is in the wrong unit.
What a calculator page holds
- The calculator itself, opened on a realistic worked case, with the answer updating as you type.
- The formula in words and symbols, with units and constants.
- A worked example that uses the default numbers step by step.
- The limits of the formula and the mistakes people make with it.
- The exact lines the calculator runs, in a “Formula used” box.
What is not here
The site keeps to general, checkable arithmetic. It does not publish calculators for loans, credit, tax, investments or crypto, medical, veterinary or dosage questions, gambling, or safety sizing such as beams, cables, towing or lifting loads. It quotes no prices: where a sum needs a figure only you can get, such as a resin mixing ratio or shingles per bundle, the calculator asks you to enter it from the label. Read how the calculators work.
